I suggest you read the story about the people in Canada who gave up so much to take re-routed airplanes full of Americans on 9/11. It was also a Canadian - Kenneth Taylor - who stuck his neck out and protected escaped embassy workers in Tehran during the overthrow. (He recently passed away; don't believe how he was depicted in the movie "Argo")
