Might pay to fight it. Since your ticket was for going over 20 mph over the speed limit, insurance surcharges might kick in.

If you fight the ticket, maybe you can get the judge to reduce the speed. Reducing the ticket speed to 34 will save you several hundred in surcharges over the next couple of years. In the same situation I asked the cop to lower the speed amount on the ticket. I did it as he got his ticket but I saved a fortune in insurance.

For me, reducing the ticket to less than 15 over the speed I it save me over $1000 (30% surcharge on $1200 policy for 3 years)

Check with your insurance agent to see what the surcharge is for speeding. Ask at how many miles over the speed limit does the surcharge kick in

This is all based on NY insurance rules. However most states have similar rules.
