~~~ the South Florida Fairgrounds was a staging operation for food and equipment. Over 1000 refrigerated trailer trucks were in town way before a storm would hit... which would service hot meal centers in major shopping centers and malls to whomever drove up to any of the locations. Blankets, generators, tools and machinery were all available at no cost to anyone in need. All events were cancelled at the fairgrounds for the 6-month hurricane season in order to prepare in case of a storm... and during one stom George W. Bush came down to hand out bags of ice and bottled water. This was after Katrina.
