The last time a storm posed a real threat was during the Republican convention in 2012 - and I was living in Florida but visiting up in Michigan when it happened. (It ended up staying far out into the Gulf)

I was living in Michigan and training in Florida in 1998 when Hurricane Georges caused us to evacuate from Ft. Lauderdale. We resumed training a month later - just in time to evacuate for Hurricane Mitch! I also flew into Orlando the day after Hurricane Charley hit; the city was in pretty bad shape, but the theme parks restored operations pretty quickly. I think Charley was the last one to hit Florida - certainly the last one to make a rare visit to central FLA.
