I have had good luck with Adobe CS and use the twain feature to scan the image with my Epson scanner directly into the editing software. You really get the best results as far as clarity is concerned. One scan directly into CS at high resolution for editing and using the tools to circle cut the chips. Then reducing the image after working on colors and definition. The results leave a crisp, true-to-color scanned item. Hope this helps.
