for other casinos (besides the host casino) to issue a live chip, commemorating the Conventions. Once upon a time, the website had a page that displayed all of the casino issued, live gaming chips (and some NCV-type chips) that commemorated the various Conventions. I just looked for it and it appears gone, but elements exist on ChipGuide.
Here is a link to the ChipGuide page that has some of those chips noted: http://www.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=CLUB05&p=100#10
To confuse matters more, there was one year where the host casino issued 2 different, live gaming chips. Both were $5 chips. This was done by the Aladdin. Also, some casinos (non-host) issued multi-chip sets (in four different denominations). O'Shea's and Fiesta come to mind.
I hope this explains why some years (especially 2002) had different casinos issuing commemorative chips to recognize the various Conventions.
