The download for Windows 10 sounded good at the time.
It was Free and most reviews were positive.
I thought, why not.
Here is my experience downloading Windows 10.
First of all, I couldn't have done it without the aid of my bestest and smartest computer buddy.
You can use him too if you want. His name is Google!
How long it takes to download depends on how fast your computer and internet connection is.
My self built PC had Windows 7 Ultimate and the download took about an hour.
Before the download I saved all of my personal files onto an external hard drive, just in case.
Windows 10 download has an option to not delete your files if you choose.
I chose not to delete my files and it was still there after the install.
Windows 10 download is advertised as being free.
It is free but you need to input your Windows 7 or Windows 8 “Product Key” to download it.
My first project was getting the Product Key for my computer.
I didn't want to go and look through the computer paperwork so I used Google.
I found and installed a free program called Magical Jelly Bean.
Magical Jelly Bean found my computer's Product Key on my computer. Amazing!
Almost every “free” program has something extra attached to it.
I made sure I excluded the extra from downloading by doing a Custom install.
Magical Jelly Bean has an extra attached. Exclude it during install.

When I finished using Magical Jelly Bean I removed it from my PC.
I had no further use for it so it was deleted. (It’s a personal choice.)
I tried the Windows 10 download again but my Product Key wasn't working.
A Google search found a generic Product Key.
Bingo, it worked!
It was like that for a lot of things.
I had to use Google a lot and it found the solution for each problem.
After the Windows 10 download my anti-virus program was gone.
Avast anti-virus was the first to be installed.
After that, Comodo firewall was installed.
Also installed were Malwarebytes and Spybot.
Lost during the download were Word, Photoshop, Collector's Assistant, GIMP, Excel and numerous other programs.
With the help of Google I downloaded and installed almost all of the programs I lost.
There were no problems re-installing my Epson scanner and HP All-In-One.
All my programs worked the same as before.
Even my 10 year old Collector’s Assistant, Version 5.1.10, was working with Windows 10. (I got it running Pam G!)
Over the course of several days I re-installed most of my old programs.
Some were challenging and Google always came to the rescue.
One nice feature is Windows Start menu returned in Windows 10.
You can pin a bunch of apps that you frequently use to Windows Start:
In the end I didn’t fork over one penny, it was entirely Free as advertised!
The decision to download Windows 10 is up to you.
If you do decide to download Windows 10 I hope your download goes smoothly!
