Thanks for your comments Doug. I also try to gather as much honest information about every candidate running in the presidential
elections as I can. I don't limit my choices to one party or the other. I value my right to vote and to help select this countries leaders as one
of the greatest gifts democracy has to offer. I wish that all US citizens would take the time to do the same. I very much dislike it
when very important issues are painted with broad strokes of misinformation.
I know that there have been some very ugly political discussions on the board in the past. Yet I would love to see more
discussion of political issues on the board if done in a respectful and thought out manner. Perhaps I'm just dreaming.
I enjoy reading carefully thought out and well presented arguments and discussions. Especially on the Chip Board where there are so
many people that I like and respect.
My summary of last nights debates. I don't really like large multiple person debates. It forces people to go for soundbites and doesn't
allow much of an opportunity to really "discuss" the pros and cons of an issue. Although I didn't agree with some of the questions they
asked I think Fox did a pretty good job overall.
I would like to hear specifically why others feel that they didn't. You may be right. I'm always
willing to change my opinion if I find one that I think is better.
Of the candidates I thought Rubio, Fiorina(in the earlier debate) and Kasich did the best over all. I enjoy Carson's common sense answers
to questions although I think being soft spoken in a large group is a disadvantage.
A quick example of the way I try to look at issues.
Immigration:
*I'm concerned about illegal immigration.
*I don't believe in open borders where anyone can "move in" at will.
*I don't believe that our country can support the whole world, therefore we must have and follow
a legal immigration system.
*I recognize that we have 10-15 million illegals now living in our country and ultimately
we will probably have to find a way to legalize many of them.
*However, I don't want to do this without making sure that we don't have another 10-15 million to deal
with 5 years later.
*Given that I feel that we will have to find a way to prevent, or severely limit future illegal immigration.
*Perhaps a fence is the only efficient way, although I hate the idea of having to build fences around
our country. But we build fences around our homes, military bases and even the white house.
*I think we need to allow more "professional" level people to immigrate to our country and try to
keep some of the best of the foreign students that come here to study.
*I understand that more immigration may be a way to protect social security and other benefits. Wish I
knew more about the pros and cons.
*I understand that illegal immigration may be a "safety valve" that prevents civil war in Mexico. Wish I knew
more about the pros and cons.
*I know I dislike the idea of large corporations and businesses wanting illegal immigration to continue
to insure low paid laborers. Would love to know more.
*I know I hate the idea that a political party would want to continue illegal immigration with the goal
of gaining a voting block that might make most future elections a moot point.
Just an example. Thanks to all.
