You are sooo right John...
In Response To: Chicken Little ()

Most of us start collecting because is in their nature, mostly because we are compulsive & you will find that most true chippers collected something else when they were younger, stamps, coins, certain toys, etc. It is in our nature and non collectors will never understand why anybody would waist good money to buy a lot of worthless same which only uses up space, as my wife has been telling me for >15 years.

Very few can invest or make money, even if you have a real business and try to make a go at it with a professional approach, you would still need a lot more to supplement it, usually with coins and tokens where there is a real market and value. Many people start collecting something in their lifetime, usually non-compulsive normal people, but these, in average spend about two years before they move on and quit. I suspect the non-collector new chip collector does not last that long before getting tired and/or going on to something else. At that time they try to sell all they have, but quickly find out what their wives and friends have been telling them for years, most cannot even get 1/2 their money back, specially trying to sell them fast (meaning cheap).

As a long term investment, is even worse, usually people collect chips that are in vogue at the time, paying a premium, but, by the time they want to sell, is old news, new trends have come and the old premium paid chips are close to worthless. So, trying to make a buck with chips, trying to run a sole chip business, or trying to invest for the long term DOES NOT WORK!

Every so often, I find myself in the middle of so many chips and different collections that to be able to concentrate, I have to sell. And boy, you see your "investments" either almost worthless or less than the shipping cost. You take what you get, just to get rid of it and clean up your plate. But, still very happy because those chips gave me so much entertainment over so many years, that you feel they already paid you off. And more important is the fact that you do not care how much you get, because, after all, you are only selling to buy more chips . So, with that attitude, which we probably most share, how can you make any money in chipping!!

So, if you guys want some very CHEAP Caribbean chips, some nice C&S, and many other chips, all cheap, call me. But remember, the rest of you who have Cuban chips, Dom Rep chips, die-cut inlaid, some C&S, and Fl illegals, among others, get ready because I am coming after you with the money I just made selling the other chips. How much did I make? Right, now that is a JOKE!!
