Castro did not close the casinos, some remained open after the revolution. There were a few that were ransacked during the takeover. Lack of business in the coming months is what finally closed them. I visited Havana last year and went to the Plaza Hotel, Sevilla Biltmore, Nacional, Havana Riveria and the Havana Hilton, now the Havana Libre. You can see the now empty rooms that once housed the casinos in the Nacional and the Riviera.
