I found this funny site of folks talking about collecting addictions (link at bottom). It got me to thinking about my collecting habits.
I started collecting stamps and coins with my brother when I was about 5 or 6. My Grandfather gave us each a 5lb coffee can full of 1964 Kennedy Halves. (Man I wish I still had those today!)
In College my interest in Classical Archaeology led me to collect ancient Roman Coins. I taught myself to read the abbreviated Latin inscriptions and became an expert on the coins of the Antonine Era.
My next area of interest were coins of the American Colonies. While collecting these I found several Error coins, and thus started a new collecting interest: Error Coins.
I also delved into Autographs. I would buy the signs cheap, when the celebrity was first starting out, then turn them around for a lot of bucks when they made a milestone.
Next came Chips. My Mom was living in Vegas, she was working for Pete "Big Elvis" Vallee at the old Barbary Coast. I was going out to see her later in the year, and did some research on Vegas. I thought I was just going to find some autographs, but a Flamingo "Bugsy" chip showed up. In the auction description was a link to the club. I bought the chip and joined the club at the same time.
That was a long time ago, but I've been to several conventions since then, and have enjoyed the many friends I've made here on TCB.
