So today I get up at 5 AM to head out to the yard sales. Normally I look for chips (but never find any) and jewelry and coins where I have much better luck. But I also buy a wide variety of other things from booze to stuff to maintain the yard to art glass and pottery and even quilts for Cindy. I figure I will buy almost anything I can get at a great deal and resell later at a nice profit. Of course I have never sold anything yet but we are gonna have one great Estate Sale some day!
So today I head out to a sale that starts at 8am and I get there just before 7. Despite its location I wanted to go their first since she advertised estate and costume jewelry. She is just starting at 7 and will not let me see the jewelry until 7:30 so I head out to sale number 2 which is 10 minutes away and also starts at 8. They are not open at all. But two blocks before that second sale I spot a sign and decide to try it to kill a few minutes to let number 2 open up. This also turns out to be an estate sale and the first piece I see is a large Weller vase for $20. Next to it is a kind of neat tall piece of art glass for $20 that has some tape on the bottom. I doubt if there is a signature under the tape (there wasn't) but I know I will not be able to live with myself if I pass up a L C Tiffany vase for $20. The owner sees me carrying the Weller vase and says she has two more at another table. Another $40. She also has some old jewelry but it is not for sale this weekend and maybe some coins so I leave her my card. We finally decide that $55 is a fair price for all four items.
I head back to sale number one only to find out that she sells on Ebay and everything is way over priced. At my last stop today I was at a church sale where I had to pass on several nice silver items since they were also overpriced. I had to quit early today when my daughter called to tell me her AC unit died again after I fixed it two days ago. So all I got today were these 4 nice vases. I looked at 2000 Weller Ebay sales and the short vase had an asking price of $60-135. The design on the tall vase had prices from $145 to 345 but I never found that exact vase and it is huge - 12" tall or more. The small two handled vase I didn't find anything with the same design at all (another good sign ). The art glass vase has no signature at all and may be newer but is still a nice piece to display. Sometimes you don't find what you are looking for but something else just falls into your lap. It is like the lottery - you can't win if you don't play
