Barry,
Both Avis and National Offer it through a FREE membership into their respective plans.
Avis "Preferred" Program like Hertz, simply has your car in a specific space and a sign tells you which space your cars is in. You go straight to your car and off you go through the exit booth.
I MUCH prefer National and use it almost everytime I travel. National is NOT the cheapest though but less than Hertz and Avis, generally.
The key to national's Emerald Aisle program is they allow you to rent and pay for a midsized car and then when you get to the airport you can get in ANY car in the Emerald Aisle section!! The section is filled with not only mid sized cars, but in 40 -50% of the cases, there are other cars from convertibles to SUV's to sports cars in the Aisle as well.
Swear by it and Emerald Aisle also gives you 10% off regular rental rates as well free rentals as you rent from them, too.
