{NCR} Ooma now has an app for their phone service

I've been an Ooma phone user for a number of years. This is voice over IP service and when I started using it, you bought the hardware (about $250) and all domestic phone calls were free. Supposedly, they are charging something for the phone calls now, but I've never been billed anything. Rick on Pawn Stars mentioned the service on one of their recent shows and I believe they now use it for the shop.

My reason for posting this is they have produced an application (app) that runs on Apple products, and I believe also on other vendors' devices that use the Android operating system.

What intrigues me is the possibility of making and receiving calls with your iPad when you can make a WiFi connection. This would mean you could use the same phone number for your home phone and your portable and pay nothing for the service. This is not cellular service (although it supposedly runs also on an iPhone). The iPad does have speaker and microphone so should be capable of speaker-phone operation, and with a headset, maybe also as a regular phone.

Has anyone tried this? How well does it work? There are lots of relatively negative comments posted on the web about the WiFi app, but they've just released a revision that supposedly fixes the known problems. The app if free, but before I spend time trying this, though I'd see if anyone here has experience with it.
