Not sure which laptop you have but many of the newer ones also support the gestures of the two finger expand and squeeze similar to your laptop on the trackpad. It is a function of the trackpad drivers and there is a usually a flag in the control panel mouse settings to turn this on and off, however it surprises me that the laptop doesn't work with the key combination.
