Pan is also played at the Commerce Casino, world's largest cardroom (take that, Nevada!). But they don't use dedicated Pan chips there.
I always envisioned the game as taking a raccoon and stuffing him into a large can (hence Coon Can). Players bet like wild until the coon knocks over the can, which they are good at doing. Coon jumps out and starts growling and snapping at everyone. Player with best hand on the table wins, unless he is bitten. Anyway, that's how we'd play it if I ran a casino. Maybe we'll try it at the Burbank Moose Lodge next month.
