Pan or Panguingue is a card game played with 8 decks with all the 8,9, and 10s removed. The play is similar to gin rummy, each player starts with 10 cards, and ante one chip. You make money by creating certain spreads, for example three cards of the same number in the same suit is worth one chip, in spades its double. Other valid spreads could be worth more chips or no chips. You win when you spread 11 cards in valid spreads before the other players. The winner collect the antes plus additional chips for money spreads plus two additional chips for winning. This could be for fun or for big money. Chips usually didn't have denominations, but the color represented the value like in roulette. I've seen games where the chips were valued as low a nickel and as high as $100.
It was a very popular game in Gardena, California in the old days. Reno and Las Vegas had several games. I use to play at Harold's Club in Reno, and Sahara and Union Plaza in Las Vegas.
Today only the Bicycle Club Casino spreads it in Southern California. I don't know of any in Nevada.
Note the "Panguingue" at the bottom of the center Ace of Spades. These are from custom made decks.
