Old Vegas Photo of the Day

Thunderbird Hotel, Las Vegas, 1968. Opened in 1948, the fourth resort on the Las Vegas Strip. The front man was Lt Gov Clifford A. Jones; hidden partners were Meyer Lansky & the mob. The hotel changed hands and declined in the 70s. Renamed the Silverbird in 1976. Demolished in 2000. The (unfinished) Fountainebleau hotel occupies this space today.
