Mr. Straub also has his eye on Bader Field. It used to be an underutilized airport for small private planes, but has been shut down for several years now by the Federal Aviation officials. The large red round building is "The Sand Castle" ... a former professional minor league baseball stadium (now closed) that was home for "The Surf" and the stadium parking lot. The site has very high potential for redevelopment that Straub is thinking about. Waterfront acreage as this, is very valuable along the Jersey Shore and is the largest single vacant parcel of available land in A.C. To the right is Route 40, one of only three major access roads into the city. The other two roads are Route 30 that serves the Marina District and the Atlantic City Expressway from Philadelphia.
