My Peter Luger Tale:
A few years back, My wife, CC, and I had res at Peter Luger. The res was for 5:30pm. Too early! But it was all I could get and that was after calling 2 months in advance!!!
Of course, the traffic was so bad coming in from NY City. Our Limo got us to PL at 730pm!!! The PL Host was very nice and said that he would try to do his best to sit us, but we were two hours late for our res.
We stood at the long wood bar and after 2 JW on the rocks, I walked up to the same Host. This time I had a 20 dollar bill in my right palm and a 50 in my left. I smiled and said to the gentleman Host, "Aloha. Please forgive me for being so late for our res. I a apologize. I'm just a lolo Hawaiian on vacation." I shook his hand. He took the 20 without looking and said, "Give me 10 minutes."
We had a great dinner. The thick bacon strip appetizers were awesome, too!
