In the late 50's & 60's 3-4 trips to Las Vegas a year. What was a real pain happened, when purchase was made in a casino, gift shop, coffee shop, or any other purchase, they would giv you silver dollars in your change. The reason 1.00 slots all over the casino. Narrow isles, no chairs, and most people to get rid of the heavy silver dolars would drop some in the machines. In the early 60's I was playing black Jack in the Fremont Casino downtown, using silver dollars,I bought in for 20.00, got very lucky, a unbeiveable streak, they changed dealers, even moved the table a few feet. They had been serving me beers like crazy, I had to go pee so bad after 2 hrs., but I was afraid to leave the 3 racks of silver dollars at the table, finally told dealer I had to go to mens room. He said I'll watch your dollars, even put a white towel over my chips, he knew I was a kid wih no experience. I came back and played little, never make a bet over 3.00 or 6.00 if I doubled down or split. My buddie came over and said he was broke and made me leave the table. Never had anything near that run of good cards in the last 50+ years. Also, remember the table was near the lounge show, that had a curtain on the entrance, but I could hear Wayne Newton singing. He was 18-19 yrs old, on his breaks he had to go to the coffee shop, not old enough to be in casino. He ate straberry cheese cakes, later learned thats where he gained a lot of weight as a teenager. That 300.00 silver dollars was a lot of money in those day's. I think we drove up with a total 60.00 - 80.00 bucks.
