The following press release is provided by Dana Lee Fruend, editor and publisher of Nevada Live Magazine. On Wednesday January 21, 2015, Carson Now wrote about the temporary closure and had been waiting for the official word.
The Horseshoe Club has been located on the corner of Carson Street and Telegraph, at the heart of Downtown Carson City, and serving the public for over 40 years. It was opened by Gene Chaney in the early 70’s, and is currently owned by his five adult children, two of whom grew up in Carson and currently operate the small business primarily for the local residents.
The decision to temporarily delay reopening to the public on Tuesday morning was a last minute executive decision by the long-time General Manager/Part-Owner, Jeannette Kelley. The business had closed at the normal time the previous night at 11pm. At that time, it was not known for certain if the decision would be made to not reopen to the public the next morning. Several employees still came in and worked that day, just not with customer service.
The owners are consulting on making operational changes. The General Manager is waiting for the decisions on the changes before reopening to the public. Therefore, it is difficult to determine exactly which day the doors will again reopen to the public. Everything is operational (lights are on) with all licenses in place for when the proper time to reopen to the public has been determined.
The properties and grandfathered Gaming license are currently listed for sale. It is challenging to make decisions regarding changes to the operation in anticipation of what a new owner would prefer.
The property owners’ brokers, John Uhart and Sam Douglass, are currently in negotiations with interested parties and are actively soliciting offers. Anyone inquiring to purchase the Downtown, historic, capital city properties and the grandfathered Gaming license may call their office at 775-884-1896 or reach them by email at jfuhart@ccim.net for John, or samuel@jucommercial.com for Sam.
In light of the publicity, this occurrence has shown that Carson City is truly a small, caring community. The responses with emails, messages and phone calls with concerns for all of us personally at the Horseshoe has been very heartfelt and appreciated. Carson City is a great community that truly cares about its local small businesses and the people who operate them.
The HorseShoe Club.
Nevada Live Magazine is looking forward to seeing the new changes and or new Owners. We wish The 41 year establishment success and prosperity in this coming new year!
