Over the years I have accumulated a lot of common-ish $1s and $5s I don't collect. About 90 or so $1 and about 65 $5. Spread across USA, Nevada, and Vegas. Many of them would go near face, but a large handful are nicer. None worth much more than $10.
Selling them one at a time is too much work. Trading doesn't really work, since I look for scarcer fractional 'cents' chips with inlays. Selling as one big lot drives the price way down, and most collectors needing a few of the chips pass since they would be stuck with the surplus.
How about a 'Pick'em' auction? I don't know if I have seen one on this board. Taking a $5 'Pickem' auction as an example, here's how it might work.
I'd choose a lot size subset of the entire $5 lot quantity -- like 10 -- for a 'Pick 10' auction. Then there would be a chipboard auction with a posting of the entire 65 $5 group, and the high bid winner would get to pick whatever 10 of the $5s they wanted. Then, the remaining 55 chips would be reposted and go back on auction for round 2 for the next 10, and so on. A couple od days for each round I would think.
Chippers get a shot at chips they need by the handful, I get to sell clumps of chips. I'm taking feedback. Any interest? Also, is the $5s in groups of 10 the right scaling? Maybe 20 at a time for the $1s? Fewer chips starts being more work than worth it...
