The race course closing is not a big deal. Without taxpayer subsidies the track would have been gone a long time ago. The track is not at the shore but in Mays Landing, about 18 miles inland. It's been closing on and off for the last 9 or 10 years and it was announced that Cabella's was going to build a super store there, but a sentimental group formed to save the track. There is live racing only 5 days per year, just enough to keep their license. I think they may have simulcast but am not sure. Every time I ride past the gates are closed. The owners have done very little maintenance and the neglect shows from the rotting stables to the overgrown parking lot.
