Many Nevada error chips sell for $75 to $150. I'd like to know if anyone would pay close to that for the over-stamped chip shown. I collect Nevada errors but wouldn't pay anything for it. That doesn't mean someone else wouldn't collect it.
In my opinion, the hot-stamping process is very prone to operator actions and process variables and it would have to be quite unusual to classify as an error. Certainly this chip would not have met customer specs and wouldn't have been shipped to him if the maker caught it. Casino chip makers don't work to U.S. Mint standards though, at least not for low denominations. I would bet that chip didn't come from the customer but from an employee of the maker, probably someone who swept the floor .
