I have been collecting Paulson and later GPI sample chips since 1995 when we started making LE chips at the Four Queens, same year I found the CCGTCC.
Here is what I know about the time line on the sets.
I did not scan early sets I got.
In 2007 Chipco started a big campaign over lead in Paulson chips. They sent letters to all customers.
The facts was they had already taken the lead out of their formulas except 6 colors that had well under the EPA rules for lead in chips. The Chipco letter was bogus information.
In Sept 2007, I asked for a sample set. It had 78 colors in it.
6 colors were on the reverse H&C and the other 72 on the H&C.
This is the only scan I made. 2 of each mold.
The 6 on the reverse H&C were new formulas minus the EPA approved lead content.
In August 2009 the salesman brought me a new set. It had 77 colors in it. The Royal Blue was missing from the 2007 set. Treasure Island had new light tan layouts made for the casino. Their $1 chips were Royal Blue. They had bled into the tan layouts. GPI made all new layouts to replace them and removed the Royal Blue from the sample set.
I have 2, 77 color sets post 2009. If interested email me. I had 3 but traded one to Jerry Birl a couple years ago.
Last week I asked for a new set, It had 88 colors in it. 11 new colors offered from the 2009 set. By far the most colors ever. I did scans of all. Jerry said in a earlier post today he was posting his thoughts on the new set so I am not posting the scans today.
The GPI color palette has 89 colors in it. Royal blue is still in it.
I believe the 88 color sample set is the first time GPI made samples for a complete palette, minus the 1 Royal Blue, they will no longer produce.
