Re: The Fiesta Chips and BoPo The Alien Part 2

Gaming Times August 1997.

BoPo “The Saga” continues:

July 17, 1938 was a dreary, foggy, drizzly morning. No good could ever come of this day. Douglas Corrigan strolled onto Brooklyn, NY’s Floyd Bennett air field to check on his 1929 Curtiss Robin monoplane. The plane was being fueled for a cross country flight to Los Angeles. The mechanic fueling the plane was a short little fellow and looked a little green around the gills. The mechanic told Douglas his name was BoPo and he would make a good copilot for the trip. BoPo explained that he had a lot of experience in aircraft. Douglas had been out on a pretty good toot the night before and jumped at the chance to get a nap on the flight to LA.

Off they went into the wild blue yonder, and it wasn’t long before Douglas was in dream land. BoPo took control and right away noticed that the instruments weren’t the same as he was used to. He didn’t know which end of the compass to follow. He reasoned that since this planet was round, it didn’t matter which way he went, he would wind up in the same place. Several hours later, Douglas woke up and noticed water below. BoPo explained it was the Mississippi river. Douglas figured a couple more hours of sleep was in order. BoPo thought to himself, this is the widest river he had ever seen.

Twenty eight hours later, BoPo landed the plane in what he thought was LA. What a place, everything was green. He thought he had died and gone to heaven. Dublin airport officials arrested Douglas for making an illegal transatlantic flight and “boldly going where no man had gone before”. Besides, they didn’t believe the story about the short green mechanic. The Legend of Wrong Way Corrigan was born. When last seen BoPo was sitting in an Irish pub sipping green beer and smiling ear to ear. Where would you want to be, if you were green?
Now you know “The Rest of The Story”.

Postscript: Douglas Wrong Way Corrigan flew to his 15 minutes of fame in July of 1938 and taxied to the runway for the final flight of his life, in December of 1995. He never wavered from the story he told to Dublin authorities in 1938. “ I followed the wrong end of the compass”.

Final Postscript: BoPo called yesterday saying he would have to hock his Zarivarian chip collection to obtain money for his air fare back to Las Vegas from Ireland, unless the Fiesta was willing to give him an advance on his salary. What salary? What job???
