Re: Not totally new grin ....

We've had one for several years grin

On June 16, 1941, there was an article in a Milwaukee newspaper...here's a paragraph:

“On the Level” is claim
Everyone insists that the gambling is on the up and up—that a guest has only the game’s percentage against him. The gamblers gave me the impression that they have a deep and almost superstitious fear that even a rumor of unfairness or trickery would put them out of business. The code of the old west decreed a quick demise for the gambling cheat; that of the new west decrees, apparently, a business demise, which is just as fatal these days.

Tommy Thebo, owner of the swanky Apache Club, and Jim Powers, manager of the Frontier Club, agreed that one bad game could easily discredit all the others.

“All of the boss gamblers are here to stay,” says Thebo. “We own property and we’re taxpayers. (And members of the chamber of commerce, he might have added.) There is nothing that could put us out of here quicker than a crooked game. In Nevada gambling is a business, like anything else. The gambler who isn’t satisfied with the normal odds doesn’t belong here. My roulette table doesn’t show a profit at the end of every day but I know at the end of the year it will.”
