I would think that changing the bet on a slot machine after a jackpot has been hit is cheating. It is no different from those blackjack players who try to slide in a higher-denomination chip after hitting 21.

The article mentioned Ron Harris, and how he reprogrammed slots to pay off after a certain sequence of wagers had been made. I saw Harris on a History Channel documentary a few years back, part of a series about folks who had tried various ways of cheating the casinos. Some of them were absolutely brilliant.
