some alternatives to PayPal

I have investigated a couple electronics payment companies that eBay allows. Skrill seems to be mainly European. ProPay is American (it's an arm of Wells Fargo Bank). They charge an annual fee (current promotion is $5 for eBay sellers, but the regular annual fee is close to $50). They do not require buyers to have an account with them; they basically process credit cards.

If they still offer a competitive arrangement when I decide to switch, it looks like ProPay will be it. You would set up an account, and then activate that option on your eBay listings. You can keep or delete PayPal as an option. You can also arrange with your own bank to do credit cards. I recall they were a bit more expensive back when I decided to go the PayPal route, but I may look at this option again. I just feel that a lot of buyers like having a PayPal balance from which to pay, but if sellers start abandoning PayPal buyers will also have to consider other options. After all, there was a time when eBay got by on checks and money orders!

I think buyers and sellers will take some time getting used to different options.
