Albert -- While collecting chips in St Maarten, we went to the Rouge ET Noir casino where there were several Americans playing Black Jack. So, I joined in the game, and won a couple hundred dollars. I bought chips and was headed back to the ship, and since we were on the Dutch side, my wife wanted some Delft porcelain Dutch shoes she saw in a shop window. I went into the shop, and was followed by three thugs. One put a knife to my throat and I felt a sharp pain (knife-like) in my back. Just that quickly, my wallet which I kept in my right pant pocket was gone with the fleeing criminals. In addition to losing all the new cash just won at the casino, all my identification, ship card and other monies were gone that fast. And, that happened a long way from the port where Princess Cruise Lines uses. We tried to get police help, but without any luck. The only thing that saved us was we had purchased wrist bands for the water taxis and made out way to waterfront for an adventure we will never forget...hopping from one boat to the other. When we got to the port, no one would let us on the pier without a ship card or identification papers. Lucky for us, I spotted casino worker from the ship's casino who was going back to the ship. He agreed to contact the ship's security when on board, and they sent a couple of officers to get us. There's a lesson in all this. Never put all your eggs in one basket -- i.e. money, identification, etc -- and secondly, those thugs were hanging around the casino looking for an easy mark. Credit cards were hit at least 24 times by the crooks using what they thought were possible pin numbers. The crooks found me, and I learned a valuable lesson. I hope this doesn't happen to your or anyone else, but being observant of your surroundings is very important regardless of where you are.
