Sunday morning August 24, 2014. This is the third strong earthquake we have had living in this house. The World Series earthquake in 1989 when the boys were young and my first thought was that they blew something up in the house. The second one was in 2000 and we did okay but it trashed my mother's apartment. Today was different because the first two earthquakes were slow and rolling. At 3:20 AM we heard a freight train coming and it felt like it went through the center of our house rough and strong. No structural damage is apparent. On our back bar Cathy had a 3 L glass bottle filled with olive oil, olives and artichoke hearts. So at 3:45 AM I was on my hands and knees with a flashlight cleaning up glass from three broken booze bottles swimming in olive oil. We were without power for the first two and half hours. Many broken display items but nothing I can't live without. The big job is Tegan's wine storage area under our staircase, not his personal wine but his collection. The full wine rack is 9 feet tall and 11 feet wide with 8 to 10 cases on the floor. About 100 bottles fell and 30 or so broke. We just finished cleaning up all the glass and cleaning the bottles that didn't break. Sometime after this post we are going to tackle the 1 inch thick red swamp hiding in our carpet. We're so happy everyone in our family is safe and our only concern is a few days of cleanup.
Kind of having fun Steve
