Yes, competition IS a good thing Ricky, but the weaker properties will always be driven out ... or purchased by the stronger ones. Using your hypothetical, if A.C. doubled the number of casinos in town, that would be good for competition? I don't think so! The gaming business is simply not there to support a dozen casinos.
Regarding MGM; according to news accounts I have been reading in the local papers, MGM is paying $225,000 to be re-licensed, not to purchase Revel or another property, but to retain their 50% ownership stake in Borgata. When MGM gave up its NJ license, the company also agreed to sell its half-ownership in Borgata. The other half is owned by Boyd Gaming Corp. However, the sale of MGM ownership never materialized and its 50% stake was put into a trust, pending the completion of the MGM licensing case.
