If you add a new item to a series, it is treated as a NEW item and you will get credit. Everything that has a ChipGuide# is considered an item and the individual who submits it will be given credit as the contributor. When someone sends in better scans or additional information about that item (ChipGuide#) then they will be recognized as "Updated By".
