Remember all that junk jewelry I was buying? NCR

Well I decided to go out again today and see what I could find. I got up real early so I could drive the 30 minutes it takes to get to the "good" part of town (read as million $ plus housing). I had a map of the sales I wanted to hit in order and fired up the GPS. The very first stop didn't have a time posted in their Craigslist ad but advertised "lots of jewelry" When I got there at 6:30 I saw the sign in front of the house with the "starts at 9 AM" on it. OOOPS. The second one I went to she said that she had just sold a bunch of jewelry. GRRRRRRR. I worked my way from north to south going to the other 7 sales and ended up about 10 miles from the first stop. I figured I would work my way back to the first stop and see if they had anything left since it was almost 9 AM already. Up to this point I hadn't bought anything and thought I was getting skunked on the whole day! Since it was getting late (for yard sales, anything past the posted start time is late!) I decided to stop at any other sales I saw. I bought one bag for a quarter that had a sterling bracelet in it. Then the interesting part started. I went to a moving sale and while looking around I asked if they had any old coins to sell. The guy said all he had were some coins from his father but they were not worth more than face value. I said I would look at them anyway. He pull out a large cigar box that is about half current junk and half old silver. I offered him 10 times face for the $50 or so in silver ( a very fair offer for me) and he says OK. I start separating out the silver and his adult son comes over and says that they need to get it evaluated. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!! I gave him my card and I don't know if a coin shop will give him that much or not. He promised to call within two weeks.

One more stop and I found the main point of this post. I decided a year or so ago that when I want to sell the jewelry I would probably do it in an antique mall in a glass case. The problem is how to display it? A year or two ago I did buy a few display pieces for just this reason but it would not be anywhere near enough. Today I run into a guy who had a whole box of display pieces for $10 so now I have enough to fill a case and maybe more. grin

Oh by the way - that last stop where they had all of the jewelry? They had a bunch and even though it was after10 AM I still got two sterling pieces and a 14K gold bracelet for $2. I paid $2.25 for about $30 of gold and silver today and may still get the silver coins. Didn't get skunked after all vbg
