Seagull Club, Pakefield Lowestoft, UK "located"!

These Seagull Club chips are available from Garin Williamson you can write to Garin directly or see his Ebay listings.

With due respect I emailed all the "findings" I made regarding this subject to Garin. He told me "looks like it is" he will make phone calls if anybody knows about the chips.

Tried to zero in the location to London - there is a "Seagull Lane", but nothing else - was eliminated. Next found was a "Seagulls Club in Australia. Note the plurality with "s", Garin chip has no "s", although I have "S" as a middle name, spent countless hours in Australia who has chips in "2/6" denomination also. The data, info & photos went on file, however it lead to "not so sure" or no further lead to draw a conclusive "location".

The last time I check this in the guide it is not listed yet, the chip sets (I got only the snapper), the info and some pictures.

Now we go to some "dots".

We believe that the Seagull Club chips are highly correlated verbally with the Seagull Theater from Lowestoft, UK. The Seagull Club is one of the organization within the theater. The theater was formerly the Morton Road School when the building was converted in the early 60s.

The theater closed temporarily in 2006 (reopened in 2007 one report noted and 2009 another report posted) when the township withdraw funding. Funds were raised thru a campaign by a group - SOS - "Save Our Seagull".

It is well known to UK chip collectors and experts that in the early development of the modern gambling industry there were the illegals games and gambling in some for leisure, fun and social activities, similarly here in the US and practically everywhere.

So the gist of the story is that the "Seagull Theater Club" most probably aside from hosting "regular local talent, regional and national touring theater companies, bands and alternative film, offering a diverse program for all ages and tastes" - conducted card games within the premises on certain days and nights for social and fund raising - hence the issuance of these chips warranted a more semi formal gambling.

Please note that there are several chips/jetons in almost similar styles issued in United Kingdom - i.e., the A.M., the Kenner, Billy Bottos and a host of other casino club from the UK - perusal of the chipguide UK section will confirm what we are trying to say here.

There are two websites found relating to Seagull Theater Club - one website has a date only two years old, not even a mentioned of the older website - but the physical locations of the theater is the same.

This note is guaranteed not to do justice for this particular Seagull Club chip - "learning never stop" will continue to study further.
