Each state has its own rules on charging sales tax, or not, on precious metal / coin sales.
Some charge sales tax , some do not, and some exempt the tax if purchase exceeds a threshold amount.

It creates quite an incentive to drive across state lines to a tax-friendly state, for those residents in taxed states.
