I ran a spark test (plugged it in and powered up)

[] All the lights come on
[] Static from the speaker, rather than start up sounds or music
[] Video screen blank
[] No sparks, and no burning electrical smell

Going to pull it apart, check and clean all the circuit boards and connectors and retest. I used to make my living as an electronics tech so will pick up a manual for the thing and see what I can do...
