Compare this chip to the New Chino Club chips on the Chip Guide.

The 10c salmon-color chip on the Chip Guide doesn't show the same degree of contrast, so Larry's chip color difference is due to color fading through use, IMO.
I don't think it's fading from a light source though. Instead, the friction from use opens the "pores" in the chip and dries it out.
The incused molds don't have the same friction, so don't dry out as much.

Also, the reflection from the scanner's light source is more uniform inside the polished small crown designs, so they reflect the salmon color more vividly.

I don't recommend this, but if Larry applied a bit of baby oil and rubbing on the chip's surface, I'll bet some of the original salmon color would return.
