I assume that different manufacturers had different formulas that they used.

I'm thinking that whatever chemical causes the vinegar syndrome might be in the dice in different quantities. The dice that start smelling like vinegar might have a larger percentage of the chemical. Exposure to those dice might speed up the onset of the syndrome in dice that have the same chemical in a smaller quantity????

I don't know much about chemical reactions...that's just my theory.
