Accepted terminology for chip edge inserts

I see some terminology being used in The Chip Guide that I don't understand. I thought sxs meant "groups of 2 edge inserts of different colors with the colors touching"

Some of the recent entries use sxsxs to mean "groups of 3 colored edge inserts with the colors not touching and separated by the chip base color".

Has the Club or a well-known reference book author ever published a standard on how to refer to edge insert arrangement in text?

I know that with the picture present, as it is in The Chip Guide, this is less important. Still, seems we should after 25 years have a standard way to designate inserts, or edge spots, at least on Paul-son type chips. I agree that other manufacturer's styles, it might be difficult to use the same standard, particularly when the edge view and surface view might be different.

This chip is designated "3 BL/WH" in The Chip Guide. It seems to me Michael Knapp used to call this "3 Blue/White 1/4 sxs" in the early TCR.

Here's an example that is designated "4 sxsxs Red" in TCG. In other references, this has been called "12 Red 1/8".

Does anyone have a reference to a Club-accepted way to describe this chip parameter?
