Which token, David? A scan or link to an auction would help.

If it's a Franklin Mint token from the sixties and not in an album or holder, you probably can't tell a P/L from a Proof. Some years, the edge was different or metal was different. You should be able to tell a P/L or Proof from a casino run token though based on the quality of the strike and whether the fields are mirrored.

If it's another mint and more recent, it's probably a proof if it has mirror like fields and frosted devices (raised images). To be sure, you should show it to a token collector.

You can also look at Dan Wickett's site and see if he has it listed as a proof. He has pictures.
