Alex, You have a few different issues that you brought up, so I'll take them one by one according to my own idea of priority.
1. You want to be mobile. Yes...you should! The main needed function of that is to be able to see your collection digitally and in a format that is small, yet not too small. Enter the tablet. Any tablet. The iphone in my opinion is far too small. Even the samsung smart phones are too small. I use a Samsung tab 3, which cost me $200. I merely produce a report in .pdf (a function of Collector's Assistant.) I have set up a report format in the Collector's Assistant which I think is the cat's meow (or dog's bark if you are feline deficient). It's called Inventory Book2. It has 2x2 pictures of the chip and underneath the info on the chip, i.e. casino, tcr # value, city, state, year, etc. It extracts the info that you have entered from your item screen. As for the ability to enter chips into a tablet....I just don't see the need. The days of printing a paper version of our collection is long gone. It's a digital world now with lots and lots of wonderful digital toys.
2. The main program writer and owner of Carlisle Development (Tom) has produced a version for mac....however, it is not yet available for the chip program. He says he's working on it. There will be a stripped down version that has limited number of user defined fields, but plenty for most chip people. Right now, the present version has an unlimited number. I have agreed to work with Tom to create a screen layout for the non iphone app as well as the iphone app. All I can say is soon.
3. It's 2014.....time to get an exorcist! Or....get a real computer. As long as I can remember our conversations you have had a ghost in your machine. You can always put a newer version of windows onto that computer, if your machine isnt too outdated.
4. Today, nothing seems to work. See #3. You have done a back-up (good boy). That means everything can be restored. Assuming you don't have a windows issue (yeah, I know, I know) then you can put the program cd in and select repair. That should fix any issues that might have occurred in the program. The worst case is you re-install it. With the backup, you can get it right back to how you had it.
