For users of Collector's Assistant Software.
I have struggled with Collector Assistant software for about two years. My main complaint about the software is that it is cluttered with so many things that I don't care about and is so closely tied to coin collecting. In addition I've been using my ancient PC (XP OS) which is quirky (I'm being kind as I really think my PC is demonically possessed.) On the other hand the program seems complete and powerful. Also the support from customer service (as well as some Club members) has been outstanding. Today nothing seemed to work. I have put literally hundreds of hours into documenting my collection. Yes, I have backed things up: to a memory stick, to my MacBook hard drive and to LockBox. This posting is not about today's problems.
The Company has recently announced support for new platforms: the iPhone (which I have) as well as the iPad and the Mac. I'd like to get things working which means two things. Obviously I'd like a stable platform to manage my collection including adding new items and editing the existing items. I'd also like a lightweight gadget to drag around to chip shows so I don't buy a chip I already have (right...you've never done that.)
The easiest (I'm probably being naive) solution would be to buy a Windows tablet. My main issue is that I hate my PC and I would have to cross over to the dark side or else just use the tablet for chips and nothing else (which is why I still have my relic of a PC.) I just know there will be lots of issues in operating the existing program with the limited I/O of a tablet and with a new OS.
Collector's Assistant has released a mobile version (iPhone only?) but I have no idea if this works for chips and what the user interface would be or how I would load scans from my Epsom, etc. They are releasing a Mac and an iPad version in May which might be the way to go. Maybe I should buy an iPad and use that instead of my MacBook.
I don't want to be a pioneer so, if you've read this far, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice especially if you're using any of the new versions of the software which are either cloud, iPhone, iPad or Mac based.
Thanks.
