Now that the Club’s election ballots have been mailed with the CASINO COLLECTIBLE NEWS, I would like to urge everyone to vote and to remind you that I am running for the office of Vice President.
I have served two terms as Vice President of the CC>CC, having been first elected in 2007, and I was honored to serve with many bright and dedicated Club members. In my working life in the entertainment business, I’ve served on many committees and boards over the years and I know how important the dynamic of participation in this type of organization is. This dynamic can be a delicate thing, especially among unpaid volunteers. Members who bring ego, fear, or lack of conviction or discipline, can bring degrees of dysfunction to the group and curtail its effectiveness. Additionally, the chemistry between the members of a Board such as ours is tremendously important. It’s not necessary that the members agree on everything or are even generally like-thinking. It is necessary, though, that they respect each other and have the ability to compromise and work through differences.
I believe that one of the important things I bring to the table is the ability to work well with others within a group such as our Board of Directors and as a representative of the club. Your elected Board members are charged with representing each and every member of the Club but, first and foremost, they are elected to be leaders, and I believe that I would bring considerable leadership skills to the Board as well.
I was amazed and humbled by the endorsement ad that appeared in this month’s CASINO COLLECTIBLE NEWS. Having the support of the entire current Board of Directors, as well as a virtual Who’s Who of distinguished members of our hobby, including four past Club Presidents, is very telling and meaningful. I have respect for Sheldon Smith, my opponent in the Vice Presidential election, and feel that he does a very good job as Club Publicity Director, but it is clear that it is time for a change and I believe that I would be a valued addition to the Board of Directors.
