It can be done, but not easily. I have removed one of these. I peeled the metal holder back carefully, working around the chip with pliers a little at a time. Took an hour or so, but did come out with only a couple of edge nicks. There may have been a little adhesive behind the chip but it wasn't difficult to remove. The reverse is hotstamped No Cash Value. This is a look at the chip. TCR N6577.C
