I can't speak to winter access issues, but I have visited spring, summer, fall -- very nice. Stateline a better homebase, but go see Northshore, Emerald Bay, etc. Fly into Reno, check out Carson City and Virginia City on the way there/back.

I've been to Cal-Neva. History great, food not so much -- but that was 10 years back...
