So Cale, in re-looking I have decided that...

This chip is an example of having both a light and dark camel version inlay that is not the result of fading, for the following reasons...

While the lighter version camel is on an inlay that has a slight yellowing, often associated with UV light exposure, it remains, in my opinion, that the inks used in the printing process of the 2 inlays, reflects an excess of brown ink on the dark camel version. In fact, the excess ink has managed to run, while the light version is very precise and fine.

Beyond that, the red inks are both strong and dark (no evidence of fading). Black is hard to use as an example of fading, because black is the last to fade, and the yellow side of this chip has only received a small amount time (in relation to the time it takes to fade ink) exposed to a UV light source, which could very easily be from casino lighting (as opposed to sunlight).

Now, lets suppose that the light camel has a lesser amount of ink visible because some of it has faded away. I would counter that any ink would be blocking UV light from reaching the inlay, and if the ink was degraded by UV exposure, there would be a transition line around the ink that would be a lesser shade of yellow that the portions of the inlay that had full-time exposure to the UV light source.

Anyway, I contend that the light vs. dark camels is a function of the printing process and not something that happened to the chip after manufacture.

Thanks for looking!

Jim

ps. Note the red splotch at the rider's head on both chips. I believe this is a coloration of the rider's turban band. The mis-alignment is a function of what is called a registration error (in the printing process). This means that all of the red ink is mis-aligned with the position of the brown ink.... or vice versa. vbg

Is this a known variation? Sahara L.V.
Looks to me that the sun got to one side.
Interesting... Here is another look
Forgot to pay tribute...
We will likely pull this variation from $1
Thank you Cal and others
Cale, now hold on a sec....

I guess it depends on a single scan...
A 3rd Look
Michael, I sent you an email.
Re: Cale, now hold on a sec....
Well, I did not read the fine print to see that...
So Cale, in re-looking I have decided that...
