While I know I can call I was looking to get some opinions, or facts, from this community first.
I recently conducted an auction where I "tried" to stipulate that shipping was free, only if the Buy It Now (BIN) feature was used, or if the final auction amount was equal to or greater than the BIN.
So, while the auction reflected Free Shipping, the description added the details of the free shipping only if the final amount was equal to or greater than the BIN.
When the auction closed, with a bid below the free shipping amount, the buyer simply paid (via PayPal) the auction close amount. As I was just leaving for a cruise, I shipped the package, rather than get into a debate with the buyer, knowing that within hours I would be out of contact range.
Upon my return, I noted that the package was received and positive feedback was provided by the buyer.
So, what are the suggestions...?
Is there a better way to set shipping requirements in the auction to accomodate this split shipping cost concept?
Should I challenge the buyer to at least cover actual postage? ($3.00, on a $15 purchase)
Or?....
Should I contact for guidance?

Please keep in mind, my primary objective is to find a way to offer 'buyer pays if low cost and seller pays if high cost'.
Thanks in advance for your considered opinions/suggestions.
