I really miss out talks at the convention and hope we can find some time to do it again one day.
While we don't agree on everything, I have a lot of respect for people who say what's on their mind and put it as eloquently as you do.
I do agree with a lot of things you say and wish we had solutions to many of them.
While I am personally against a 100% free admission convention because of the hit we would take, the BOD continues to try new things to increase attendance. this year for the first time we will be offering 2 days for free instead of one. Hopefully that will drive an increase in attendance and we can incorporate additional ideas in following years as well.
The BOD actually DID try and allow other types of collectibles for sale at the convention for 2 years. We tried to get coin and antique dealers to attend but had zero luck. I have even tried to reach out to other collectable clubs in the interest of getting their members to have tables at our convention but rarely ever even get a response, much less a positive one.
I cant disagree with you on what's said to a lot of people about their ideas. Its unfortunate but many of those responses are actually true. We definitely don't want to discourage people from making suggestions and part of what we do to make sure that happens is discuss every single idea brought to our attention.
I am sure that the rest of the board sighs deeply when they see the meeting agenda each time and it includes dozens of items that are brought to me by the membership. However they are all discussed no matter how outrageous or unfeasible they might be. the good news is that there are some diamonds in the rough and many of the things we have implemented over the past few years come directly from those suggestions.
Keep up the posts and cant wait to see what observations you have waiting for us.
